Pictured below are members of the u3a crown green bowling group of the Elkes Bowling Club playing on despite the conditions resulting from the recent heatwaves. The crown green has suffered from the heat like virtually every lawn and public grassed area. Despite the green turning brown play has still been possible (despite the players wilting in the sun) while the speed of the green has resulted in more bowls ending in the gutters than stayed on the green.

The mid session breaks for tea, coffee and biscuits, and occasionally cake, have been especially welcomed and allowed play to continue each Friday between 10am and 12noon of the season. New recruits to this fascinating pass-time are always welcome and turning up at the site when play is taking place will allow you to see for yourself how much fun it can be.

New members are welcome so please come along if you’d like to know more, and try your hand under the expert guidance and leadership of Alan Killey.
